Have you been tricked into thinking how easy it is to make money online? After nine years of Internet marketing I am still amazed at how many emails I get claiming how easy it is to get rich online.

I’ve spent money on various products that were supposed to teach me how to do this. In reality none of them ever worked for me.

I imagine that they never work for most people either. The reason for this is very simple. Internet marketing is a fantastic tool for promoting things online, but you still need to develop skills and then work hard before you going to make any money.

I will admit that some of the tools available today shortened the success curve. But you still need to promote real products, drive traffic to a website, and get your visitor to perform a specific action.

If you are an information publisher you’re probably using Google Adsense to make money. You can build the nicest site in the world, and place ads strategically so people will click on them, but if nobody comes to your site you’re not going to make any money.

Cost per action programs are a great way to make money online. However you still have the same problem. If you’re not getting visitors to come to your site, and fill in the lead forms, you are not going to make any money.

I become more interested recently in selling physical products online. Targeting a niche where people are wanting to spend money is a good way to sell physical products.

But you still have to develop the skills of choosing the right niche, purchasing a domain name, building a quality website, and then getting traffic to it. This is something that any person with average intelligence can learn how to do.

What I have seen though, is the majority of people are not willing to put in the effort that this takes. These are the perfect candidates to purchase the newest get rich quick marketing product.

I like the new book “Get Rich Click” by Marc Ostrofsy, but he is quick to point out that you’re going to have to work if you expect to make money online. The difference is you can build a very nice online income to supplement your current income. You can even replace your current income and work full-time online if you’re ambitious enough.

I still get emails every day telling me how Joe blow easily made $176,00 using the newest and greatest Internet marketing tool. I very rarely buy these anymore because I’m not going to be tricked into thinking that I will be getting something for nothing.
